Mama Lan

Dumplings are a speciality at this tiny Brixton bolthole. A team of deft Chinese women make them in front of diners, and they are superbly juicy. Best is the rich pork and Chinese leaf, with a punchy side of vinegar.

Daquise

Fill up on wholesome Polish pierogi with a choice of meat, cheese, potato and onion or cabbage.

Speck Mobile

Franz and Marco bill themselves as “two cheeky Austrians”. They cook their grilled cheese dumplings in plentiful amounts of butter but they are served on a bed of salad — so there’s something from every food group.

At KERB King’s Cross every Thursday, and Bodo’s Schloss, speckmobile.com

Rainbo food

Tightly packed with either pork and ginger, chicken and coriander, or shiitake and tofu, these Japanese dumplings come with crunchy slaw, served from a funky 1948 street-food van. Money from every meal sold goes to Food for Freedom, which rescues and rehabilitates child labourers in Nepal.

Tonkotsu

Delightful parcels, handmade and stuffed with pork, prawn and pork, or shiitake and bamboo shoots.
