With winter approaching it is time to start looking at what we eat over the winter.  It is so easy to stock up on carbohydrates and eat lots of comfort food. Why not have a look of some of the great super foods out there that will keep you stocked up over the winter months.

Have a look at the list below and enjoy...

See you all tomorrow.

BEST FOR RAW FOODIES

WHAT Raw crackers — these organic crackers aren’t baked, instead they are dehydrated at a temperature below 100C to preserve goodness and make them easier to digest.
WHY ‘Check store-bought versions to make sure they are stabiliser-free. The biggest health benefit of raw food is that it keeps all the nutrients and omega oils most commonly associated with helping to relieve liver and joint problems.’

BEST FOR SLIMMERS

WHAT Adzuki beans — protein-packed legumes from Asia, these small red beans are a staple of the macrobiotic diet.
WHY ‘The skin contains three powerful antioxidants (quercetin, tannins and anthocyanins), which help repair cell damage, improving skin quality and elasticity. Very low in calories but packed with protein, so great for those who want to lose weight.’

BEST FOR GWYNNIE FANS

WHAT Kale chips — dried and seasoned paper-thin crisps made from curly kale leaves.
WHY ‘Antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and bursting with iron, kale is full of things that are good for your skin and heart. Like spinach, it’s also abundant in vitamin K. The chips taste wonderful with a dash of cayenne pepper and/or parmesan.’

BEST FOR PARTY ANIMALS

WHAT Kukicha twig tea — a soothing Japanese brew made from the stems and twigs of carefully reared tea bushes.
WHY ‘A partygoer’s best friend. It’s alkalising so it will effectively balance out acidic alcohol and regulate your blood sugar levels. Smokers take note: it’s also rich in tannins, which help flush nicotine out of the body.’

BEST FOR BRAINIACS

WHAT Hemp seeds
WHY ‘Hemp is a mercury-free alternative to fish oils. A natural anti-inflammatory, its omega 3 and 6 oils can soothe joint pain, arthritis and eczema. The seeds will keep you really vital and fit in your job because omegas also help with brain function.’

BEST FOR SWEET TOOTHS

WHAT Natural coconut yogurt  — a creamy, coconut milk-based yoghurt that is gluten-, lactose- and dairy-free but doesn’t taste it.
WHY ‘If you’re susceptible to eczema, asthma and psoriasis (often triggered by the protein in cow’s milk), CoYo is your saviour. It’s probiotic and doesn’t disturb your gut.’

BEST FOR DETOXING

WHAT Spirulina — a freshwater algae supplement most commonly found in your morning smoothie.
WHY ‘Full of chlorophyll, spirulina removes toxins and boosts your immune system. It’s often used for the removal of heavy metals or radioactive materials in the body, making it very good for anyone going through chemotherapy.’
